This week, Trish hosts Emily Hall in the Student Lounge. Hall is VP of marketing at Charrette Venture Group, a venture capital firm that guides small architecture businesses toward success. Like interior designers, architects aren’t necessarily taught how to run a business, so CVG supports those businesses to encourage growth.
Hall shares her wisdom on networking, business cards and acquiring leadership skills:
-Students don’t always have opportunities to learn leadership skills unless they seek them out, so look for organizations that can create those opportunites like ASID.
-Students and young professionals can demonstrate leadership skills and network at the same time by regularly attending industry events in their area. Hall gives the example of architects attending local zoning meetings for projects they like.
-Student should have business cards if they’re working on getting their names out into the world, but they should be simple. Name and contact information is enough if the card comes with a memorable interaction.
